"All I once held dear"

On the way back from Plymouth I was listening to this song:

All I once held dear, built my life upon, all this world reveres and wars to own, all I once thought gain I have counted loss, spent and worthless now compared to this.
Knowing you Jesus, knowing you, there is no greater thing,
You're my all , you're the best, you're my joy, my righteousness, and I love you Lord.

Now my hearts desire is to know you more to be to found in you and known as yours,
to possess by faith what I could not earn, all surpass gift of righteousness.
Knowing you Jesus, knowing you, there is no greater thing,
You're my all, you're the best, you're my joy, my righteousness, and I love you Lord

Oh to know the power of your risen life and know you in your suffering
to become like you, in your death my Lord, so with you to live and never die.
Knowing you Jesus, knowing you, there is no greater thing,
You're my all, you're best, you're my joy, my righteousness, and I love you Lord.

It got me thinking about a time in my life, a couple of Christmases ago, when I thought that I had everything I really wanted, and I was really happy. I even said to my housemate that I was waiting for everything to come crashing down. Slowly but surely God took all the things that were making me happy, and brought me to complete reliance on Him, so the first line is really appropriate to what was going on in my life then. Also, the changes in my life then did teach me that there is no greater thing then knowing Jesus.
